December Thoughts: Acts Of Kindness

I wanted to just take the time to check in on everyone as this year is FINALLY coming to an end. I know that this year has affected many people in a handful of ways. I want take the time to say that I am sorry that so much sadness has happened in many lives. There has been loss of loved ones, jobs, business. The kids are experiencing emotions that they have never felt before. Parents are struggling with having someone to be home with their children if they are unable to work from home. The list keeps going on and it is just devastating to see.

I think we should always try to perform some random acts of kindness whenever we are able to. But, during these holiday seasons when the most acts of kindness are normally done. I wanted to share a couple of acts of kindness that I have done and also provide a list of some ideas. The smallest action can completely change someone’s life around in the right direction.

One of the main actions that I did this Holiday Season was the weekend after Thanksgiving. I reached out a couple weeks beforehand on all of my social media accounts. I took up a donation that I was going to be using to tip a delivery driver. I was able to raise $ 125.00, which was absolutely amazing. I ordered food the Saturday after Thanksgiving earlier in the day. My Door Dash driver was so blown away and so thankful for the tip and he said that the money is really going to help him and that we made his day.

Another idea was brought up to my by one of my close friends. She works for a retirement home, which was collecting money to provide gifts for their residents for the Holidays. It is a sad time for them because they are not allowed visitors even for the Holidays. I was more than willing to put in a little donation because a little bit from a group of people will add up! That is the one thing to keep in mind, it doesn’t have to be a huge donation or a huge act.

I am not sure if churches are still doing it with how things are currently but a lot of them will have a giving tree. With the tree you are able to pick off an ornament that will have a persons gift idea on it for a family who is in need of help.

Here is just a few more ideas of acts of kindness, but if you think about it the number of ideas is truly endless:

  • Donate Toys to different organizations that are collecting for children (Toys For Tots)
  • Make a Money Donation to the Salvation Army
  • Pay it Forward: When in a drive thru you can always pay for the person behind you. This is a small gesture that could make someone who is having a bad day a little better.
  • Offer to help someone to wrap gifts for someone who is having to work longer hours during the holidays.
  • Offer to help an elderly person you know with their lights or Christmas tree.
  • Sending Christmas cards to loved ones. This is an easy one and I feel as though a lot of people have fallen out of this older tradition.
  • Make Holiday cards to send to a Nursing home to have passed out their residents. * I did this with the kids I nanny for because a friend of mine was collecting them. The youngest really enjoyed this activity
  • Make Military Care Packages to send out to those serving our country.
  • Baking Cookies to leave at your neighbors doorstep as a random surprise.
  • Leave out snacks for those working hard to deliver all your orders and food . * I do this one every year!

These are just a few and if you are interested in discovering other acts of kindness, I am sure that can be done in a quick google search!

If you have done any acts already, I would love to hear about them in the comments.

I hope that you all are hanging in there and trying the best to stay in a positive head space during this challenging time.
