Fall Crafting Idea for kids: Scarecrows

I wanted to start sharing some craft ideas that can be done with the kids! I will post different craft ideas for different seasons, holidays, occasions, and just because. Today, I am going to share a craft that I was able to do recently with the youngest that I nanny for. This craft was a nice and simple one and we had some laughs while making them!

Here is a picture with the supplies that you are going to need:

  • White, Black, and Orange Paint
  • 10 Popsicle Sticks
  • Paint Brush
  • Paint tray/ paper plate
  • Yellow strips of paper cut
  • Googly Eyes
  • A small Orange triangle made from paper or felt
  • Masking Tape * Ignore the Gorilla Glue we changed our minds with that.
  • A little puff ball
  • 3 little circles made from pipe cleaners
  1. Take 9 Popsicle sticks and lay the side by side.

2. The easiest way to get them to stay together is by placing a few pieces of masking tape across the sticks.

3: Time to draw a line across the top leaving only a little bit of space at the top. Paint the space below the line white.

4: Paint the top part orange and the one Popsicle stick orange as well.

5: Roll up some masking tape and place on the unpainted side of the one orange Popsicle stick and tape to the bunch on sticks at a little bit of an angle.

6: Use a little bit of glue on the back of the googly eyes and place where you would like to on the white part of the sticks.

7: Place some glue on the back of the felt or paper triangle nose and place where you would like it on the white sticks.

8: Flip the scarecrow over and tape on the yellow strips of construction paper on each side.

9: Take the rolled up pieces of the pipe cleaner and glue onto the orange part of the sticks where you would like to form the flower. Then glue on the puff ball to the pipe cleaners to finish off the Flowers.

10: With the black paint make a smile on the white part of the sticks where you would like it to be. Then take and make little lines with the black paint going through the smile.

Ta- Da you have a scarecrow! I hope that you have a really great time making these with you kids. Please leave me a comment if you decided to make this and how it went!
